The energy, attitude and fun that exudes from Party Fears is full on infectious. Imagine if you will the northern American college emerging music scene days of old (80s) of Throwing Muses, Ten Thousand Maniacs, R.E.M and and the Pixies etc., and you are getting a good idea of what to expect, mixed in with flavours of later Art Rock of bands like Franz Ferdinand and Eleanor Friedberger (of Fiery Furnaces), and good chunks of punk sprinkles. You can’t help but love it.
Led by the formidable Maggie Devlin the band ducks and dives and dances to its very own tune in more ways than one. Originally from Northern Ireland, Maggie based herself and the start of the band in Seoul, Korea, before moving on to Berlin. You can only imagine the musical influences that lay at the core of that itinerant life, and how they travelled and melded together, also in tandem with the band members’ different nationalities and personalities, but safe to say is that the outcome was one of fabulously catchy grit.
