Want to get charmed? August and After will charm the pants off you. With rich harmonies and swooning melodies these lads; that is Ned Mortimer and Vedantha Kumar, have it sorted.
Having named the band after that famous debut album of Counting Crows, the similarities really end there in most ways, bar perhaps the ability to create catchy tunes with intricate layers of musical innovation. August and After are closer musical kin of bands like, for example, Kings of Convenience, Fleet Foxes or Belle and Sebastian, although, we think, even a bit more accessible. Still they have remained consciously unsigned, and even collected a nomination from the Unsigned Music Awards. So, just like their music, Ned and Vedantha too, seem to want to take the slow, caring and thoughtful road to where they want to go, and in doing so win out via the creation of beautiful music which is truly their own.
Sync/score wise they have collaborated on a number of film projects, and had a lovely animation done to their track Set Sail (see below), and it is not hard to see just how perfect of a fit the music will be to a whole range of projects. Come for a listen.
“Really loving [Wolves] and the way it flirts between being mesmerizingly haunting and at the same time offering up these delicate uplifting moments”
(BBC Introducing)
“Haunting, beautiful music” (Kerrang! Radio)
