This electronic indie trio from the county of Monaghan started up in 2014 and is made up of Conor Bellew (vocals, keys), Ciaran Curley (vocals, lead guitar) and Ryan Mulligan (percussion, Ableton Live). In their own words this is what they are aiming to create: “Mixing the worlds of analog synthesizers, catchy guitar riffs, programmed drum beats and meaningful vocals, the band find themselves in a 1980s twilight with a modern twist.” And we believe they do indeed achieve their aim, and more.

The sound of Conor Bellew’s voice is something special, and the manner in which he delivers it is soothing, while strewed with a gentle layer of wisdom. The fact that the lyrics are thoughtful and conveyed with care naturally only adds to the appeal. Overall the music is fun while introspective, in the custom of the band’s influences: Chvrches, James Blake, Bon Iver, James Vincent McMorrow, Foals, Flume and Explosions in the Sky. The sound is perhaps a bit Scandinavian rather than Irish as such, but this is just a plus, making it stand out a bit more in its Irish context and beyond.

Here are two videos for your enjoyment:

“Song for Brothers”

“Sinking Islands”
