A good few artist’s new releases were cut short, or put on hold, by the pandemic, and Dundalk’s Finnian’s debut album Under the Influence was one of them. Heavily influenced by music of by gone eras, such as 60s and 70s folk, soul and rock, the album too is an eclectic mix of vibes, and is the solidification of years of hard work. Well crafted and packed full of very fine instrumentation and thoughtful lyrics it serves as perfect launchpad for Finnian’s strong, soulful voice.
In one of the videos below Finnian forces the closed live venue doors by introducing the album via an online live session. A good way to start in our weird times, and a clever way to get to your heart despite the obstacles that have been thrown in our way.
“The songs themselves range from funky, warm and soulful offerings to confident, strutting rockers and the influences of Bryan Adams, Nile Rodgers and Bare Trees era Fleetwood Mac seem to pervade throughout. “
At the Barrier
“Under The Influence is reminiscent of drunken summer nights slowly approaching dawn.”
