Teresa Galvin (Vocals, Guitar), Stephanie Pawula (Vocals, Percussion) and Fionnuala Kennedy (Vocals, Double Bass) and their Sligo based band The Hunter create a very particular world which manages to feel both contemporary and from some other century. There are leanings on story telling folk, of a darker kind, yet they can also get a bit jazzy and warm as they add the congas, double bass and harmonies. The fact that they are influenced by a range of world music, such as American Folk and Blues, Mexican Folk, Afro Brazilian as well as Irish roots, makes for an interesting concoction. Llhasa and perhaps The Handsome Family comes to mind, but still they wiggle out of the box… Have a listen for yourself.
