“Gritty Folk Lullaby” is a musical description that captures your attention, and it is how Ruth (vocals, various instruments) and Michael (vocals, guitars) Aicken along with the group’s alternating lineup of musicians, describe their folk/pop act The Jepettos. Sharing the bill at music festival Tennent’s Vital with bands such as Foo Fighters and The Black Keys, and clocking up ten million views on Spotify, are some of the group’s most notable achievements, and in our opinion are not too shabby at all!

The Jepettos’ sound is made up of seamless harmonies from both male and female vocals, classical and folk instruments, and energetic rhythms, which overall bring warmth, charm, and romance to their music. This sense of romance combined with the warm tones of the instruments and lighthearted character of the songs, are reminiscent of what is at the heart of Folk music. The husband/wife duo behind The Jepettos have been writing songs together for fifteen years, and have now shifted their musical focus to electronic pop in the form of their newest project: New Portals (which we wrote about last week here on the AMP blog). This new act explores electronica and pop, and we are proud to say they too feature in the AMP catalogue. With such talented musicians and songwriters at the core of both these acts we can’t wait to see where they go next!
