Full of contrasts are the pictures that develop from Cathryn Green’s background. Originally from warm South Africa, she has made blustery Ireland her home since 2008. When she first started putting a serious effort into recording she was juggling a promising musical career in tandem with a job as an accountant. Nevertheless, contrasts aside, or perhaps because of them, her musical track has been allowed to flow. Cathryn has worked with the likes of Ian Caple (Tricky, Suede), Bill Shanley (Ray Davies, Eleanor McEvoy) and Andrew Holdsworth (The Cure, Mary Black) as she put her originals together, but has also been very successful in her reworking of classics such as Depeche Mode “Enjoy the Silence” and Tears for Fears “Mad World” (see the video below).

Within stirring arrangements, deft strings, fine piano work and riveting and winsome vocals you can find her, as she turns from atmospheric, melodramatic to optimistic and upbeat, and back again. She has been likened to Regina Spektor with a faint south African accent, Fiona AppleKate Bush, as she delivers classic quirky pop with bags of potential. Have a listen.

an assured cross between Lisa Hannigan and Sinead O’Connor.  It’s strongly melodic with literate lyrics.”
